OKTOBER 2025 CINEMA IN CONCERT 
AT TONHALLE ZURICH

Film music takes centre stage at the Cinema in Concert Gala of the Zurich Film Festival: The Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, conducted by Frank Strobel, will present a concert featuring works by Academy Award-winning composer Hildur Guðnadóttir as well as an orchestral suite by Swiss film composer Balz Bachmann.

Guðnadóttir, known for her scores to Joker, Chernobyl, Tár and Women Talking, will receive the ZFF Career Achievement Award during the evening. Together with Bachmann, Strobel and Swiss-American director Jasmin Gordon, she will also serve on the jury of the 13th International Film Music Competition (IFMW).

The suite includes excerpts from Bachmann’s scores for The Black Brothers by Oscar-winning director Xavier Koller, the ZFF competition winner Stille Reserven, the Swiss Film Award-winning The Sparrow in the Chimney, the audience hit Yalom’s Cure, and music from the documentary Las Toreras. The evening will also feature a special appearance by the acclaimed pianist Simone Keller, who will receive the Zurich Cultural Award 2025 the day after the concert.

THE SPARROW IN THE CHIMNEY (2024) by Ramon Zürcher was a major winner at the 2025 Swiss Film Awards. With a total of six nominations, including Best Feature Film, best Filmmusic, the movie was considered a top favorite. It was also selected for the 2024 European Film Awards.
2023 LAS TORERAS

The film won the Emerging Swiss Talent Award (Critics' Prize) and the Film Prize of the Churches of Zurich at the Zurich Film Festival in 2023, received the Berner Filmpreis for Documentary Film from Berner Filmförderung in Bern in 2024, and was nominated for Best Documentary Film at the Swiss Film Awards in 2024.
