BALZ BACHMANN
Balz Bachmann is a composer, producer and musician with over twenty years of experience in the international music scene. His extensive work includes feature films, documentaries, theatre, art projects and television, which underlines his versatility and commitment. Bachmann has worked with both renowned and up-and-coming directors such as Jasmila Žbanić, Dani Levy, Ramon Zürcher, Lisa Brühlman or “academy award” winner Xavier Koller.
His compositions have been honoured with numerous prestigious awards, including the prize for best film music at the Locarno International Film Festival, the Swiss Film Award for best film music and the German Documentary Film Music Award.
In addition to his successful work as a composer, Balz Bachmann is also active as a music producer and lecturer at the Zurich University of the Arts. He has also worked as a musician with various artists from different genres, including accompanying the singer Sophie Hunger on her tours. His musical style is diverse and ranges from electro-acoustic and orchestral music to experimental compositions. Bachmann's aim is always to develop a unique musical language that gives each project a distinctive character.
In 2024, he was selected along with 12 composers from around the world for the Cannes Film Festival's "Spot the Composer" programme and was featured as a composer at the festival. He lives and works in Zurich and is a member of the European and Swiss Film Academies.

I strive to create a unique language that authentically supports the emotional journey of the characters without going down predictable paths. Rather than emphasising the obvious or allowing the music to be manipulative, I look for a connection between image and sound that is subtly poetic yet powerful - a connection that makes the invisible tangible and raises questions rather than just providing answers”
